Align with your publishing goals

Write like a fiction yogi!

If plot is the spine of your novel, your characters are the heartbeat. Your readers may come to your book for the story, but they stay for the characters who hold them fully engaged and immersed in your fictional world.

In 6 Powerful Ways To Convey Character, we look at the techniques you can use to ensure your characters are clear, original, and authentically complex enough to keep your readers invested until the last page.

LIFTED MY BROKEN SPIRIT

Thank you, Tina, for guiding me gently through this whole process. Your sensitive but meticulous annotations lifted my broken spirit to attack the manuscript with new zeal. I feel it has evolved massively from where it was before we started working on it together.

Holistic not formulaic; instinctive not prescriptive

I'll work with an open mind and an understanding of your goals, to realize your book's potential and what we need to do to get it there.

Editing fiction is not about ticking boxes (sorry, AI). Rhythm, pace, voice and style drive the technicalities of punctuation, spelling and grammar, rather than the other way around.

I'll prioritize helping you make your narrative consistent, clear, effective, and above all, a pleasure to read for fans of your genre.

On your side

Flannery O'Connor once said that "writing a novel is a terrible experience, during which the hair often falls out and the teeth decay."

While I can't save your hair or teeth (sorry!), I can guarantee to be your most fervent cheerleader. I understand the roller coaster of writing and publishing, and my job is to make the ride gentler, more pleasurable, and sometimes even fun. (Pompoms optional.)

Capable hands

Over nine years' professional book editing and proofreading experience, working with a traditional publisher, self-publishing indie authors, and authors seeking representation.

A graduate in literature, I've studied creative writing and advanced creative writing, am a self-published author of twelve novels, and a published short story writer.

I trained with the UK's Publishing Training Centre and Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (formerly SfEP).

Support that suits you

Depending on how you like to work, or where you are in your writing career, you may have a preference for either more or less advice and guidance from your book's editor.

I've worked with writers across the spectrum, so whether you'd benefit from a collaborative approach, or would simply prefer a wave from the gate as you take your edited book to market, I'll adjust my support to suit your needs.

The Fiction Yogi philosophy

Namaste, Friend. Welcome to Fiction Yogi. The Fiction Yogi philosophy is "Holistic not formulaic; instinctive not prescriptive". Meaning I believe every fiction writing project deserves to be met on its own terms, rather than subjected to a one-size-fits-all editing process.

Guided by your narrative's individual voice and style, as well as your goals for your work, I help you pull together the story you wish to tell so it's clear, engaging, and fits comfortably in your genre.

My priority is quality before speed, and my methods are supportive and non-intrusive, handing you the tools to master your manuscript and elevate your writing so you can meet your publishing goals.

I work only on manuscripts where I believe I can add significant value, and to date every writer I've collaborated with has gone on to publish either traditionally or via self-publishing. In addition, I have a 100% customer satisfaction rate that it's my personal mission to maintain.
